Conference Costs
The fee structure for Grasping Globalization is designed to make the conference as equally accessible for all Canadian youth as possible. Therefore, the cost for participants living within a reasonable distance from the Greater Toronto Area is $75.00. For all other participants, i.e. those who must pay travel costs such as train, coach, or plane, there is no conference fee. In addition, partial scholarships will be available for participants traveling from the East or West coasts. KCFTC will also help participants with fundraising ideas to pay for travel costs, and may be able to negotiate reduced-fare flights for youth who must fly to the conference. A note on financial need: KCFTC wishes to ensure that no youth are denied the opportunity to participate due to their financial situation. If you are interested in attending but the conference fee or travel cost poses a financial problem, please apply nonetheless, and make a note of your financial need on the application. KCFTC will do its best to accommodate you. Need for financial assistance in no way affects participant selection and will be kept strictly confidential.

Travel & Dates
The Conference begins Wednesday evening, February 27, and ends Sunday afternoon March 3. Travel to and from the airport, train station, and bus station will be provided Kids Can Free The Children

Location
The Grasping Gloablization National Youth Conference will be held at the Shadow Lake Centre, in Markham, Ontario, just a small distance away from Toronto. The Shadow Lake Centre is set in a beautiful landscape, and is perfect for the purpose of the conference!

Why have this conference?
With Globalization becoming a more prevelant issue these days, it is important for today's Canadian youth to be engaged in the debate surrounding globalization and empower them to make globalization more just and equitable.
Speakers from around the country and the world will come to the conference to speak, from both sides of the globalization debate. At the end of the conference, delegates will brainstorm and think of dynamic and creative ways to take back what they've learned to their communities. Delegates will be able to return home, knowing how to get others involved by giving a presentation at their schools and starting a project. In May 2002, Grasping Globalization teams, working in partnership with the national conference participants, will travel to 4 regions in Canada to give one-day conferences for up to 100 youth on the same issues discussed at the National Conference. These 100 youth will then join or begin projects of their own, and get even more people involved… it’s a chain reaction!
